The Gilded Age
This is a really small sample from a very large number of photographs that I took during the set construction of HBO’s “Gilded Age”, in early 2020 (right before the Covid shutdown). I probably took over three hundred photographs, but I accidentally lost them all with the exception of this selection here. I worked as a scenic artist on the first season of this TV show, and I proposed the scenic charge to document the construction progress of this massive scenery. So every Friday I would bring my camera equipment and capture these images. Photographing this workspace was challenging, since most of the light sources are directly exposed and some are aiming straight at the camera. They were work lights afterall. And many lights have different color temperatures. Some areas on the set were underlit and very dark while others had an abundance of light. So I had to do bracketed exposures (underexposed/overexposed) in order to get a final photo with a balanced light exposure.
